Spotlight on "Food" and "Cycling" in Nagato

From September 3 (Tue) to 29 (Sun), LIFE CREATION SPACE OVE, a concept store of bicycle parts manufacturer SHIMANO, is holding a fair highlighting "food" and "cycling" in Nagato City! The fair will be held in Nagato City, Japan.

In this issue, we will report on the staff's actual visit to the site in conjunction with the event on Saturday, September 7, in two parts, Part I and Part II.

Touching the gaze of Misuzu Kaneko

The sun gradually set around 6:00 p.m.

Chairs were lined up in OVE's café space, and participants took their seats one after another.

The event "Kaneko Misuzu Happy Gaze," in which participants listen to a talk by Setsuo Yazaki, Director of the Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum, and taste food from Nagato City, is about to begin.

It's not often that I get to talk to someone so up close and personal," said Yazaki.

Participants were drawn into the talk, which proceeded as if they were having a conversation, not on stage, but from the same vantage point.

In her one-hour talk, she began with the story of the revival of "Misuzu Kaneko" and introduced Misuzu's gaze as expressed in her works, touching on a variety of poems.

Nagato's ingredients are used in colorful dishes

Toward the end of Director Yazaki's talk, the hall was gradually filled with an aroma that stimulated one's appetite.

The dishes prepared at one corner of the venue included cut pizzas made with Kintaro (himeji) and Heitaro (okihiiragi) marinated in oil, and pintxos made with Senzaki Kamaboko (fish cake) and Choshu Kurokashiwa (local chicken), which are made using the baked-no-kiri method.

Gurugul Green Curry Udon noodles and Bua Loy-style original desserts, which can also be enjoyed as part of the lunch menu, will also be placed on the colorful table.

We also saw menus that simply enjoyed the taste of the ingredients, such as "fish skewers," an original product of Senza Kitchen, a roadside station, and rice balls that were carefully made one by one.

Sparkling wine made with 20th century pears and blackberries from Tsuda Farm in Tawarayama complemented the colorful dishes on the table where drinks were served. Participants enjoyed a blissful time tasting the drinks along with the abundant food.

As I was enjoying my meal, I heard a voice through the microphone that I could hear.

As the second part, staff members of Nagato City Hall and Nagato City Tourism & Convention Association introduced Nagato City in a talk format.

First, under the theme of "Nagato Touring by Bicycle," stories will be told about the rental bicycles at Senza Kitchen Roadside Station and Tourist Information Center YUKUTE, as well as the ingredients used on the day.

The talk delved into the topics of cycling projects, including the "Nagato Blue Ocean Ride," and the tourism town development of Nagato Yumoto Onsen, and participants listened to the talk with excited expressions, especially when confronted with a vision of the future of the ever-changing hot spring resort.

This fair, where you can taste the limited-time café menu and get specialty products, pamphlets and free papers of Nagato City, is being held until Sunday, the 29th of this month. We hope you will experience the charm of this city full of healing through "food" in Minami-Aoyama.
