Learn about Senzaki's fish-eating culture and the charms of Tawarayama Onsen

On Friday, November 27, the 7th and 8th sessions of the "Nagato Tourism Concierge" seminar, a program to develop human resources capable of providing the unique hospitality of Nagato City, were held.

 

Nagato Tourism and Culture Seminar No. 7: "Fish Eating Culture in Nagato" (Lecturer: Osamu Hayakawa)

The lecturer for the 7th seminar was Mr. Osamu Hayakawa of Daisuke Hayakawa Shoten, a fishmonger that has been in the Senzaki area for four generations. He spoke about the fishing industry in Nagato, centering on the Senzaki market.
The lecture began with an explanation of Mr. Hayakawa's business, including "middleman," "fish processing," and "fish retailing," and went on to discuss a wide range of topics, including the current state of the Senzaki market and the problems it faces.

The fishing industry in Japan is facing difficulties due to a variety of factors. Despite this, Mr. Hayakawa's passionate desire to "continue to take on challenges! Mr. Hayakawa's passionate thoughts were heard in the Q&A session, where various questions and opinions were exchanged and the discussion was lively.

 

Nagato Tourism and Culture Seminar No. 8: "Hot Springs Power of Tawarayama Onsen, Western Yokozuna of Hot Springs Ranking" (Lecturer: Shuji Miyano)

The 8th seminar featured a talk on Tawarayama Onsen by Mr. Shuji Miyano, Director of Tawarayama Onsen Gomei Kaisha. In his lecture, he explained the "power as a hot spring" of Tawarayama Onsen from various perspectives, including its history, spring quality, and experimental data from Touji monitors. He also introduced effective bathing methods to draw out the power of the hot spring and the effects felt by Tawarayama Onsen fans.

During the lecture, Mr. Miyano also performed an experiment to demonstrate the "reducing power" of Tawarayama Onsen. The students were surprised to see the color of the gargle change in no time due to the reducing power of the hot spring water.
