A local trip on a fishing boat to enjoy time at sea

On Saturday, May 26, I participated in a local trip in Nagato, "Enjoying a Fishing Boat, Night Firing Squid Fishing Tour.

The meeting place is the parking lot of Ohama Beach in Aburaya, Nagato City.

At 6:30 p.m., participants gather one after another against the setting sky.

A total of eight people from inside and outside the prefecture participated in the event.

After an introduction to the Aburaya area and an explanation of precautions by a local marine guide, we went to the nearby Kawajiri fishing port.

After donning waist-worn life jackets, it was time to board the boat!

I'm off!"

The fishing boat departs, escorted by the staff! The boat speeds up and heads out to sea.

By the time we leave the harbor, the sky is almost set for sunset.

The orange-tinted sky and sea are unforgettable.

From there, the ship heads further east.

Suddenly, everyone picked up their cameras and gazed at...

Motonosumi Shrine, a sightseeing spot with 123 torii gates, is located in the area!

Of course, this is the first time for everyone to see the view from the sea.

The boat then returned to the west and stopped at a certain point.

With the beautiful gradient sky in front of us, the squid fishing finally begins.

The marine guide taught me how to cast the first pitch!

Attached to the end of the fishing rod is a pseudo-bait called "egi.

It is made to sink and float well in the sea to appeal to squid.

It was dark when I noticed the lights of fishing boats around me.

The boat we are on will be one such "isaribi" (fishing fire).

Squid fishing is a game after the fishing lights are turned on.

Squid approach the boat in search of small fish that have been attracted by the light.

Then, the fishing rod suddenly became stiff. A squid was caught!

It is a magnificent giant squid!

Although it was not a situation of a constant bite, the fishermen continued to catch one and then another and another.

Some of them were nearly 30 cm in length.

There were two kinds of squid swimming around in the pond: the giant squid and the Japanese common squid.

On board, visitors can sample sashimi squid.

The transparent squid meat overflows with sweetness and flavor with every bite!

And so it was that all participants successfully caught squid on the day, and the scheduled time arrived.

As I was putting away my fishing rod, on the last cast I heard a voice saying, "I got it! I heard a voice saying, "I got it!

The participant who caught the last fish said, "I wish I was still on the boat.

Back at the fishing port, we checked the catch.

Every time a squid is lifted out of the boat, a cry of "Oh, wow" is heard.

The total number of fish caught that day was about 40.

Everyone was happy to take home their own cooler box filled with squid.

Even beginners can enjoy this hands-on squid fishing tour, even if they don't have anything to hand.

It was a memorable evening on board!
