Pacific Venus" comes to Senzaki

This is the second time in four years that the ship has called at the port, having first arrived in May 2014.

In the early morning of Thursday, October 18, the Japanese cruise liner Pacific Venus arrived off Senzaki Fishing Port.

It is known as the second largest cruise liner in Japan after Asuka II of Yusen Cruises.

The 350 passengers on board are on the eighth day of their "Autumn Cruise Around Japan," which runs from Thursday, October 11 to Monday, October 22.

From the "Pacific Venus" docked at Senzaki, take a sightseeing boat and land at Senzaki.

Everyone arrived at Senzaki with smiles on their faces.

Hospitality with food, footbaths, and Japanese drums

The hospitality booths of Nagato City and Shimonoseki City were set up in front of the sightseeing boat boarding area.

Taste Nagato's "yakitori" and Shimonoseki's "fuku nabe" (fuku hot pot), or take a breather at the footbath at Tawarayama Onsen, where you can enjoy the hospitality that is unique to this area.

The boat was backed by a poem by children's poet Misuzu Kaneko.

A performance by the Seiha, a group that fosters Misuzu's Ondo, combining poetry reading and Japanese drumming, was also a welcome attraction that enlivened the venue.

Misuzu Walk" in Senzaki

In the early afternoon, the "Senzaki Misuzu Stroll," a tour for passengers, began at the Senza Kitchen Tourist Information Center "YUKUTE" at the Roadside Station.

Led by a guide, about 20 participants walked past Yasaka Shrine to the "Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum.

The 3D mosaic art of Misuzu Kaneko is a photo point that will bring cheers.

Depending on the direction you look, you can see two Misuzu-san.

At the Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum, participants will be greeted by singing by children from Misuzu Nursery School.

Their clear voices echoed throughout the museum, and when they finished singing, the audience applauded loudly.

Afterwards, we will move to the second floor to listen to a talk by the museum's director, Setsuo Yazaki.

Ms. Misuzu had a warmer gaze than anyone else toward the things and nature around us that we now take for granted. The participants nodded their heads and listened attentively to her precious talk, which was interspersed with readings of several poems.

Sightseeing boat send-off cruise

At 5:00 p.m., the Pacific Venus departed for its next destination, Goto and Fukue in Nagasaki Prefecture.

Nine sightseeing boats ran side by side to see off the boats as they blew their whistles and left Senzaki.

This year, a series of cruise ships called at our port, including the Nippon Maru in June and the Pacific Venus on this day. I would be happy if you could look back on the time you spent in Nagato City and the time you spent in contact with the local people as good memories of your long trip.
