A small cape with a spectacular view located at the northwesternmost tip of Honshu, visited by Shoin Yoshida
Located at the northernmost tip of the Mukatugu Peninsula and the northwesternmost tip of Honshu, this small cape offers a spectacular panoramic view of the cobalt blue Sea of Japan. In 1849, when Yoshida Shoin, a Choshu Clan warrior and pioneer of the Meiji Restoration, was ordered by his clan to patrol the defenses along the Kitaura coast from Hagi to Shimonoseki, he stood on Kawashiri Cape and enjoyed the view, as recorded in "Kaiho Kiryaku". It is popular as a campsite in summer and as a fishing spot throughout the four seasons, with many people enjoying rock fishing.
