Four facilities to experience the history and culture of Nagano
In Nagato City, there are four municipal facilities (Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum, Kazuki Yasuo Museum of Art, Murata Seifu Memorial Museum, and Whale Museum) where you can experience the history and culture of the city. Please take advantage of this service.
Museums
A single common-use ticket for admission to the four municipal facilities (Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum, Yasuo Kouzuki Museum of Art, Seifu Murata Memorial Museum, and Whale Museum) is available for sale at each facility.
This memorial hall honors the achievements of Misuzu, a children’s song poet from Senzaki, Nagato City, by following in her footsteps. It is also a center of exchange to support the cultural and creative activities of local residents and Misuzu fans who visit from all over Japan.

This museum houses and exhibits the works of Yasuo Kagetsu, a Western-style painter from the former Misumi Town. The museum has restored his studio as it was when he was alive, and special exhibitions are held three times a year.

This memorial hall introduces the footsteps and achievements of Murata Seifu and Shufu Masanosuke, who were central figures in the Choshu domain’s policy reforms at the end of the Edo period. Visitors can view their personal belongings and documents from the time.

This museum preserves and exhibits materials related to the old-style whaling that was practiced in the Tong area of Qinghai Island. The museum contains valuable materials such as whaling tools and drums used for “whale songs” to mourn whales.
