Two rocky peaks called Oki no Shima (offshore island), about 41 meters high, and Jichi no Shima (land island), about 20 meters high, rise above the Tateishi fishing port.
Located in front of the Tateishi fishing port on the rough waters of the Sea of Japan, it is said to be one of the largest and most beautiful rocks in Japan, both in terms of size and scenery. On the top of the rock is a standing gilded wooden statue of Kannon (Goddess of Mercy), said to have been introduced after the Shimabara Rebellion, and is revered by the simple local people.
