Poem by Misuzu Kaneko

The dove at the greengrocer’s. Misuzu Kaneko
parent dove, child dove
three doves
cooed at the eaves of the greengrocer’s.
Eggplants are purple
cabbages are green
strawberries are red
and they are glossy and wet.
What shall I buy?
The white dove cooed
through ignorance
