The results of the 2018 ONSEN/Gastronomy Walking Awards by the ONSEN/Gastronomy Tourism Promotion Organization have been announced.
Nagato City has now received the "Hospitality Award" for its "ONSEN-Gastronomy Walking in Nagato and Tawarayama Onsen" in March, June, and November of last year for its overall excellence.
Reasons for the award include: "The event was held a total of three times in one year, and the local residents worked together to decorate the event and make it take root in the community," "Surprise hospitality events with different contents were held on all three occasions (yoga experience in a bamboo forest, haiku submission, opening a farmhouse as a veranda cafe, etc.)," and "A number of heartwarming hospitality events were held that made participants feel at ease, as if they had returned to the countryside. The participants were given a sense of security as if they had returned to the countryside, and were treated to a variety of heartwarming hospitality.
We hope that the "heartwarming" hospitality of the local people who hosted the event will continue to lead to the development of the region and be passed on to those who come to Nagato.
Gastronomy tourism" is a style of travel popular in Europe and the United States. It refers to a trip to enjoy the local cuisine and learn about the history and culture of a place while walking around it.
ONSEN gastronomy tourism" is a new experience that adds Japan's world-renowned hot springs to the mix. The reason we chose "ONSEN" instead of "onsen" is because we want to spread the appeal of onsen not only to tourists in Japan, but also to tourists from overseas.
We also hope that "ONSEN" will become an international word that expresses the charms of Japan in the same way that "SUSHI" and "NINJA" do.
In Nagato City, it has been held four times in the past in the "Tawarayama Hot Springs Area.
