During this year's GW, the first 10-day weekend in history, the tourist information center "YUKUTE" at Senza Kitchen, a roadside station, welcomed many visitors and provided them with information on events in the city and the crowds at tourist spots.
In this report, we report on the Senzaki area, where events related to the new Japanese era name "2025" were also held.
Wednesday, May 1, just after 5:00 a.m.
At Mt. Takayama on Qinghai Island, members of Team NGT, a local culinary research group, climbed to the top of the 319-meter-high mountain to see the first sunrise of 2021.
Unfortunately, the view from the summit is pure white, with only a few oddly-shaped rocks known as the "Maritime Alps" visible.
Although they were unable to see the sunrise, they were treated to "Nagatori-men," a local ramen developed by the group, at the summit of the mountain. The participants said, "A bowl of ramen with a view of the scenery tasted different from the usual.
A "City Promotion Booth" was set up at Senza Kitchen, a roadside station where Livingston Daisy and Nemophila flowers bloom brightly, to introduce tourist information and city planning efforts in Nagato City.
Especially popular was the photo booth where visitors could have their picture taken with a "2021" board in their hands.
Printing service of the extra edition of "PR Nagato" using the photos taken here is also available.
Many visitors came from far away and said it was a good memorial to their trip.
Among the articles in the issue is one on the topic of tourism town development underway in Nagato Yumoto Onsen.
Since this year is a year of major changes in the hot spring resort, there was also an exhibition area that made visitors imagine what the future might look like.
The tourist information center "YUKUTE" will offer a half-price rental bicycle campaign on April 30, the last day of the Heisei Era, and May 1, the first day of the 2025 Era.
Those whose names contain at least one "H" in Heisei and one "R" in 2021 in the Roman alphabet are now eligible.
On some days during this past GW, there were approximately 30 rental bikes in use in a single day, the largest number since YUKUTE opened. Families sometimes chose different bicycles for everyone, including cross bikes, mountain bikes for children, and electric bicycles with child seats.
YUKUTE also offers a wide variety of bicycles for rent, including standard city bicycles and two-seater tandem bicycles. One of the features of YUKUTE's bicycles is that you can enjoy choosing from a wide variety of bicycles.
For four days from April 28 to May 1, the "Misuzu Street Flea Market" was held in front of the Senzaki Post Office across from the "Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum" in Senzaki.
A famous song by Akira Otsu, a lyricist from Senzaki, will be played at the venue, and a workshop for drawing Misuzu's poem on postcards is also being held. The completed postcards will be stamped with a special seal from the Senzaki post office where Misuzu's poem "Tsubaki at the Post Office" was set. Many visitors from far away enjoy writing their memories of the trip and sending them home.
Also, the cart stall of Mr. Nakata, a member of the Japan Cooperation Volunteer Association for Regional Development in charge of the Senzaki area, was turned into a "collaboration café" where visitors could enjoy coffee with local sweets.
Many of those who departed from YUKUTE on rented bicycles toured around the Senzaki district.
The flea market is also a great place to take a break from cycling. The two-seater tandem bicycles in particular attracted a lot of attention, with some people saying, "I'd like to ride one myself.
Roadside Station Senza Kitchen was crowded with many customers at lunchtime.
Various "food" tents lined the corridor connecting the direct sales area and Senzakibaru as well.
The lineup includes freshly fried tempura by the Senzaki Kamaboko Cooperative, steamed oysters using "Semura Oysters" from Aomi Island, and freshly baked pizza using local ingredients, making it hard to decide which to try.
Everyone enjoyed their meal under a blue sky while gazing out at the ocean with sightseeing boats coming and going. The bayside deck at the back of Senzaki Bar was also filled with lively voices.
Street performances were held in front of the direct sales counter, and craft workshops were held in front of the "Nagato Toy Museum of Art".
Eat, play, relax.
As the days become warmer and sunnier, we hope you will enjoy spending your holidays at Senza Kitchen, a roadside station.
