From September 3 (Tue) to 29 (Sun), LIFE CREATION SPACE OVE, a concept store of bicycle parts manufacturer SHIMANO, is holding a fair highlighting "food" and "cycling" in Nagato City! The fair will be held in Nagato City, Japan.
In this issue, we will report on the staff's actual visit to the site in conjunction with the event on Saturday, September 7, in two parts, Part I and Part II.
An eight-minute walk from Gaienmae Subway Station. OVE" is located in a residential area in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo.
Bicycles can be brought into the store, and when you open the door, you are greeted by the nostalgic scenery of Senzaki.
The theme of the fair is "Sanso," a bicycle tour of Nagato City.
Scatter Ride" is an OVE-sponsored initiative that describes riding a bicycle slowly, like taking a stroll on a bicycle.
Nagato City, which promotes "cycle tourism," offers a rich variety of food, spectacular natural scenery, and five hot springs with different atmospheres through cycling. It may be said that Nagato City is the perfect area for a casual bicycle tour, where you can enjoy riding, eating, and relaxing.
In addition to pamphlets and free papers from Nagato City, the exhibition space was set up to sell selected products from Senza Kitchen, a roadside station, and a collection of poems by children's song poet, Misuzu Kaneko. The products of the city were reflected in the space with its wood flavor and calm atmosphere.
Upon entering the café space, the first thing that catches the eye is a large tapestry.
The "morning sun" and "evening sun," viewed from Ojiyama Park, each depict a poem by Misuzu Kaneko.
Morning sun is a poem of "big catch" and evening sun is a poem of "wind".
Standing in front of the two realistic photos, I felt I could feel the gentle Senzaki breeze.
Postcards with poems on them and wooden toys from the "Nagato Toy Museum of Art" line the wall space illuminated by lights. A small Nagato City is here, and such a space was spread out.
During lunch time, "Guru Guru Green Curry Udon" is offered as a limited menu during the fair.
This one was made with curry paste infused with pesticide-free green chilies and vegetables grown in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and topped with white okra, a traditional vegetable from Nagato City. The seaweed, akamoku, floating in the soup also provided a nice texture and sticky accent.
For dessert, amazake (sweet sake) is added to warm coconut milk and topped with tapioca, white rice balls, and blackberry jam from Tsuda Farm in Tawarayama, creating an original Thai bouarroi style dessert. The combination of sweetness and acidity with the texture of soft, chewy, and glutinous rice cake gives the dessert a new taste sensation.
In addition, an event titled "Kaneko Misuzu's Happy Gaze" was held that evening, in which participants tasted foods from Nagato City while listening to a talk by Setsuo Yazaki, director of the Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum.
The event will be reported in the second part of the report.
