Short version of the Nagato Blue Ocean Ride, a cycle event held every November

 Aptly named "Blue Ocean Ride," this cycling event offers a spectacular course along the coastline of the Sea of Japan and a locally produced aid menu. This year's event will start and finish at Senza Kitchen, a roadside station, and will pass through Tawarayama Onsen and Nagato Yumoto Onsen areas, while visiting famous cherry blossom viewing spots in Nagato City. The distance is approximately 52.9 km, and the estimated time is approximately 5 hours. During the tour, you will be supported by our bicycle-savvy ride staff. We hope you will take this opportunity to join us.

Measurement
This event is a cycling event and is not a competition for time or rank.

◇Car type
Any type of car is acceptable. Please use a bicycle that you are used to riding. Participants can also rent bicycles (cross bikes, electric bicycles, MTBs for children) from “Tourist Information Center YUKUTE” at Senza Kitchen, Roadside Station. If you wish to rent a bicycle, please apply for it at the time of entry. Please note that there is a limit to the number of bicycles available.

Equipment

  1. Please wear the equipment required by law for riding on public roads, such as front and rear brakes, bells, reflectors (tail lights are acceptable), and lights. Helmets and gloves must be worn for safety reasons.
  2. The use of vehicles equipped with DH bars or only DH bars is prohibited.

Please make sure to carry a flat tire repair kit, a beverage bottle, rations, tools, small change, and a copy of your health insurance card. It is also recommended to carry a cellular phone. In addition, please bring rain gear and other items you deem necessary.

◇Precautions for driving

  1. This event will be held on public roads without traffic control. All traffic signals must be obeyed and all traffic laws must be followed.
  2. The course includes some tunnels. Please be sure to turn on your lights when passing through.
  3. Some sections of the course are narrow. When passing or passing each other, please do not drive too hard, and be sure to pass safely by pulling out or letting other vehicles pass ahead of you.
  4. Leaders should never overtake the lead staff.
  5. To avoid density at the start, start every 8 to 10 people, spacing them about 2 minutes apart.
  6. Please drive single file on the left side of the road.
  7. If you are unable to complete the race within the time limit, or if the organizer determines during the event that there is a problem with the continuation of the event, please immediately follow the organizer’s instructions to stop the race.
  8. Cheering vehicles are not allowed to enter (accompany) the course. If a cheering vehicle is found running with the cheering vehicle, the cheerer will be disqualified from the competition.
  9. Use of aids by non-runners is prohibited.
  10. If you must retire, please inform the staff and follow their instructions. If you retire without notifying us, we may contact your emergency contact to confirm your safety.
  11. In the event of a traffic accident between participants or with other vehicles, please immediately contact the indicated contact person and follow his/her instructions.
  12. If a participant does not follow the road traffic laws, precautions, or instructions of the staff, he/she will be immediately stopped from driving and prohibited from participating in the next and subsequent races, etc.

Cycling courses use the roads used by local residents. Please be careful not to ride too fast when passing through narrow streets. Also, please put your own garbage such as masks, rations, PET bottles, etc. in a plastic bag and take it home with you. As a cyclist, please help preserve the environment.

Handling of Participation Fee

  1. No refunds will be made under any circumstances for personal reasons after the entry fee has been paid.
  2. The event may be cancelled depending on the spread of the new coronavirus infection. If an event is cancelled, we will contact you using the contact information you provided when registering for the event. In the event that an event is cancelled or a participant voluntarily withdraws from the event due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the registration fee will not be refunded.

Others

  1. If the event cannot be held as scheduled due to inclement weather or other reasons, the organizer reserves the right to change the content or cancel the event at its discretion.
  2. Substitute runners other than the applicant are strictly prohibited.
  3. First aid will be provided for any accidents during the event, but we will not be responsible for any subsequent treatment.
  4. The organizers will provide one-day recreation insurance for all event participants, but will not be responsible for any further compensation. If you are concerned about the coverage, we recommend that you purchase your own insurance.
  5. Bicycles and accompanying equipment are the responsibility of the participants. The organizer will not be responsible for any theft or damage.
  6. In the event of a flat tire or other malfunction, the participants are responsible for repairing it themselves as much as possible, but if this is difficult, please do not hesitate to ask the leader for help. (Even in such cases, please carry tire levers, spare tubes, pumps, and other necessary tools.)

Application Terms and Conditions

Applicants must agree to the following terms and conditions before applying for this event.

  1. I understand and will abide by the event guidelines and participate in the event.
  2. I have no heart disease or illness, and I will participate in the tournament at my own risk for injury, illness, accident, loss, etc.
  3. In the event of an accident in which I am the victim or the aggressor, regardless of the cause, I will handle it at my own responsibility and will not hold the organizer or any other person concerned responsible.
  4. I will not make any claim for compensation other than the insurance taken out by the organizer in the event that I am injured or become ill during the event, or in the event that I suffer permanent injury or death as a result of such injury or illness.
  5. I am willing to receive first aid in the event of injury or illness during the event. I do not hold the organizer responsible for the method or progress of such treatment.
  6. I will not seek a refund of the entry fee in the event of cancellation for personal reasons after entry has been completed, or in the event of cancellation or reduction of the event due to inclement weather, earthquake, accident, incident, spread of infectious disease, or illness.
  7. My family/relatives/guardian(s) (if participant is a minor) give their consent to participate in this event.
  8. I authorize the use of any photographs or names of participants taken during the event for advertising and media coverage of the event.
  9. I authorize Nagato City to use my personal information to send me information on future cycling events sponsored or co-sponsored by Nagato City. The organizer will handle the participant’s personal information in strict compliance with the laws and regulations concerning the protection of personal information.
  10. I have read in advance the “Countermeasures for New Coronavirus Infections” provided by the organizer, and will cooperate with such countermeasures. I will not make any false statements on the physical condition check sheet to be submitted on the day of the event.

Countermeasures against new coronavirus infection

Please cooperate with the following items for the prevention of infectious diseases.

If a participant is found to be ineligible to participate in the event, we may request that his/her participation in the event be cancelled or that the event be run to ensure the safety of other participants and staff.

  1. If you have a smartphone, please install and actively register the “Contact Confirmation Application for the New Type of Coronavirus (COCOA)” provided by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) at least two weeks before the event.

  2. It is recommended that a PCR or antigen test be performed within one week prior to the event to confirm a negative result.

  5. If any of the following applies to you, please withdraw from the event.
    (1) Infection with a new type of coronavirus has been confirmed 3 weeks or more before the event
    (2) You have been recognized by a public health center as a person with whom you have had a close contact and the health condition observation period (10 days) has not passed
    (3) Two weeks or more before the event, you travel to a country or region where the government requires entry restriction or observation period after entry, or you have had close contact with a person residing in such a country or region
    (4) Two weeks or more before the event date, your place of residence is or was declared an emergency or subject to priority measures to prevent the spread of the disease
    (5) On the day of the event, if you are found to be unwell (fever over 37.5°C, cough, sore throat, etc.)
    (6) One week or more before the event, if you have any of the items on the physical condition management checklist. If any of the items on the physical condition check sheet are applicable to you
    ⑦ If you have a family member or close acquaintance living with you who is suspected to be infected with the novel coronavirus two weeks or more before the event.
  6. Please bring your own mask and wear it when you are not running or talking with others, such as during registration and when changing clothes. Please refrain from using masks or buff masks during the race. Please take used masks home with you and dispose of them.
  7. Wash hands frequently and disinfect hands with alcohol, etc.
  8.  Please keep a distance (at least 2 meters, minimum 1 meter) from other participants, staff, etc. Please be mindful to open the distance even further during the ride, as exhalations will be more intense.
  9. Please do not talk loudly or cheer during the event.
  10. The number of supporters should be kept to a minimum, and they should take the same measures against infectious diseases as the participants before coming to the event. It is the responsibility of each participant to ensure that all participants are aware of this event.
  11. Other measures decided by the organizer to prevent infectious diseases must be observed.
  12. If you develop a new type of coronavirus infection within two weeks after the event, please report it to the organizer as soon as possible.
  13. In the event of an outbreak of new coronavirus infection, information will be provided to the public health center, medical institutions, and other relevant organizations, as well as to the participants and staff, and will be posted on the Nagato City tourism website “Nanavi.

Criteria for discontinuation due to the impact of new coronavirus infection

  1. If Yamaguchi Prefecture declares a state of emergency or imposes priority measures to prevent the spread of disease two weeks or more prior to the event date, or if the organizer determines that it is difficult to hold the event safely.
  2. When it becomes difficult to secure medical care and staff

If you are found to be ineligible to participate in the event, we may refuse your participation or request you to stop running in order to ensure the safety of other participants and staff.   5. In the event that a participant is confirmed to be infected with a new type of coronavirus infection after the event, we ask for your cooperation in identifying the route of infection. In addition, the organizer will provide personal information to third parties such as public health centers and medical institutions to the extent necessary, and will also notify participants and post information on the Nagato City tourist website “Nanavi”.

  6. Those 65 years of age or older and those with underlying medical conditions should apply for participation with the understanding that they are at high risk of serious illness.

In conjunction with the Nagato Blue Ocean Ride mini2022, a photo event called “Nagato Photo Cycling” will be held. This is a photo contest for photographing and submitting photos of the “Nagato Blue Ocean Ride mini”, including the beautiful scenery on the course, bicycles, and the interaction between event participants and citizens. There will be prizes for the best entries! Please see below for the application and how to submit photos.
