Start/End Dates:December 4, 2024(Wed) ~ March 31, 2025(Mon)

Organizer: Seifu Murata Memorial Hall

Tracing the life and achievements of Shobei Takeuchi, a Choshu clan samurai who ran through the upheavals from the opening of the country to the end of the Edo period.

This exhibition focuses on Murata Seifu's nephew, Takeuchi Shobei, a samurai of the Choshu domain, under the theme of "People Surrounding Seifu. Takeuchi Shobei was one of the "Kinoe Nejunan Juichi Resshi" (*), who were executed for fighting among factions of the Choshu domain at the end of the Edo period. Until now, no detailed book on Shobei's history had been discovered, but with the cooperation of Yamaguchi University, the Hagi Museum, and Shobei's descendants, research and collection have been conducted, leading to this exhibition. The exhibition traces the history of the Choshu clan from Shobei's perspective, beginning with the arrival of Perry and the opening of Japan to the outside world, the Bakan War and other conflicts with other countries, and the internal struggles within the Choshu clan.
Please visit the museum.
