This hot spring has the oldest history in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Its history dates back to the Muromachi period (1333-1573). Legend has it that "Zen Master Teian" of Daneiji Temple discovered the hot spring while sitting in Zen meditation and received a boon from Sumiyoshi Great God. In the Edo period (1603-1867), feudal lords often visited this famous hot spring to take a hot-spring cure.
The baths are built directly above the source of the spring, and the view of the hot spring water gushing out of the bedrock, together with the statue of the great god Sumiyoshi sitting on top of the bedrock, create a mysterious atmosphere in this stopover bath.

There are two footbath facilities: "Otosore Ashiyu" along the promenade of the Otoshin River that runs through the hot spring resort, and "Ashiyu" in the Otoshin River River Park. They will soothe your feet after a long day of strolling!
A café renovated from a vacant house in the Nagato Yumoto hot spring resort area has opened, offering coffee and specialty cheesecakes served on Hagiyaki tableware while enjoying the view of the beautiful Otosurigawa River flowing through the hot spring resort area.

It is said to have been discovered by a white monkey, an incarnation of the Yakushi Nyorai Buddha.
It has long been known as a therapeutic hot-spring cure that is highly effective for rheumatism and neuralgia.
One of the features of Tawarayama Onsen is that it is an "out-spa. Sotoyu" are public bathhouses and day-trip bathing facilities that do not include lodging facilities. Tawarayama Onsen is lined with inns that have been in the area for many years, and everyone heads to the public bathhouse dressed in yukata. The sight of yukata-clad guests walking down the hot spring street to the outside baths, clapping their geta (wooden clogs), is a tasteful sight.

The Tawarayama Rhododendron Garden is home to 25,000 rhododendrons of 150 varieties, grown by the owner, Mr. Kanekawa, over the past 40 years.

These cute sponge cake buns come in three different shapes: "see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil. They are a well-known confectionary in the area and are associated with the legend that Tawarayama Onsen was discovered by a white monkey.

There are two legends about Yumen Onsen. One is that it was discovered about 1,200 years ago by Kobo Daishi, who had a dream. The other is that a local fisherman discovered a rabbit healing a wound in the spring water, hence the name "Yumen (rabbit). The water is effective in treating wounds and skin, and is also highly effective in treating atopic dermatitis and heat rash.

The name "Kiwado" comes from the fact that a long time ago, the sacred body of Hioki Hachiman-gu Shrine appeared in the sea and yellow waves rose up in the sea at that time.
Kohado Onsen Koryu Center is a day-trip bathing facility located on a hill overlooking Fukagawa Bay. The view of Aomi Island on the other side of the bay and the flickering fishing lights at night can be enjoyed.
