Message from Mr. Koichi

I first visited Tawarayama in February 2021. It was the winter of about four years ago. It snowed heavily in Tawarayama Onsen, where snow rarely piles up, and the electric

I vividly remember the view as we arrived at the fantastic hot spring resort, rocked by car and bus.

The connections I made at that time and the comfort of the nostalgic town became invaluable to my life, and eventually the people of the town

I began to participate in and photograph various local events such as festivals and festivals. I found myself going to Nagato City many times,

Before I knew it, it had become like a second family home.

The photographs in this exhibition were taken by three people of the same age who met in Tawarayama and began working together on this theme of preserving the “present” of Tawarayama.

The first is a call.

Inevitably, as time goes by, the scenery and lifestyles of local people change. As time goes by, the landscape and the lives of the local people change with it.

There are many things that are not so familiar to us, but the nostalgic time that flows in the hot spring resort town is surely here as it has been since the old days.

I began to think that it must have come from the atmosphere.

I was shown a black-and-white photo of an old hot spring resort town at that time that really impressed me, and I was so impressed by the fact that photos from almost 100 years ago still existed.

We decided to preserve this town in the 2022 era on black and white photographic film, the same as the The meaning of preserving the city as a form on film negatives that transcends time.

I would be happy if you could feel it.

The cameras used in this study, called large format cameras (4×5 and 8×10), were made in the early Showa period (early 20th century), and even today, the number of pixels and the resolution of these cameras are still very high.

is a timeless camera that outperforms digital by far.

I think it would be great if such a camera could preserve the atmosphere and ambience of a place for 100 years to come.

The Kano school residences and the residence of Utagawa Hiroshige are located in the area, and over a long period of time, the soil for art has been nurtured in the area. Connecting Tokyo and the hometown, the

Kyobashi has great potential for developing this project, as it is an attractive location for a tosspot. Photographs featuring various locations in the Kyobashi area

By continuing the exhibition, we aim to connect Tokyo and the regions in a new way and contribute to the revitalization and creation of liveliness in both.
