Dainichi Hi Dondoyaki (festival held on the fifth day of the tenth month of the lunar calendar)

Start/End Dates:January 19, 2020(Sun)

Organizer: Dainichi Hibi Ku Neighborhood Association

Dondoyaki" is a winter tradition!

Dondoyaki" is a fire festival event that has been handed down in Ohhibi for about 200 years. The Dondon of Ohhibi is a huge 8-meter-high structure made of ferns and New Year's decorations. The huge Dondon of Dainihibi is one of the largest in Japan. In Ohihi, the direction in which the "Dondon" falls while burning tells the fortune of a good catch and a good harvest for the year. It is said that if it falls on the ocean side, you will have a good catch, if it falls on the mountain side, you will have a good harvest, and if it falls between the mountain and the ocean, you will have both a good catch and a good harvest. Which way will it fall this year?
