Workshop for Practical Exercises of “Nagato Tourism Concierge Training Course” Held

Familiarize yourself with the application

On December 7 (Sat), a practical training workshop for the "Nagato Tourism Concierge Training Course" was held at the Nagato City Work Center.

This course, which is designed to improve knowledge of Nagato City tourism and hospitality, is divided into two sessions, one in summer and the other in winter. Approximately 30 people who have passed the summer "Nagato Tourism Culture Test, " which tests the knowledge they have learned so far, will begin the second half of the program on this day.

The main focus of the workshop was to propose a travel plan tailored to the needs and requests of customers, based on examples of actual cases that staff members have dealt with in the field of tourist information. Also, as a basic course at the beginning, individual exercises were conducted to find out travel times and optimal routes by car, bus, and JR using smart phone and tablet applications.

The participants were then divided into six groups and challenged to create trip plans for three different situations, such as "a family guest considering a visit to Senzaki the day after staying at Nagato Yumoto Onsen" and "a senior couple considering a visit to Motonosumi Shrine and Kakunoshima Island from Kyushu next February.

The first step is to draw a map on a large sheet of paper.

Using sightseeing pamphlets and mobile terminals, they write and paste various information on fusen paper, such as spots they want visitors to stop by and gourmet foods they want visitors to try.

Imagining customers enjoying sightseeing in Nagato City, all the groups were smiling and talking about what suggestions they could offer to make customers more satisfied.

And so the one-hour workshop was quickly over, and six plans full of originality were completed.

Six plans

Three situations were prepared for this year's event, and at the end, Groups A and B presented their plans for customer #1, Groups C and D presented their plans for customer #2, and Groups E and F presented their plans for customer #3. In this report, we will delve into the features and key points of each plan produced by the students and introduce them in order.

Situation 1 (Group A, Group B)

A family guest (father, mother, and elementary school child) who plans to stay at Nagato Yumoto Onsen plans to take a sightseeing boat cruise and visit the Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum on the following day. On that day, they want to go to Yuda Onsen, their next place of stay, by 6:00 p.m. Please suggest a suitable travel plan for this tourist, using public transportation.

Group A

Main Itinerary】Overnight stay at Yumoto Kanko Hotel Saikyo → Aomi Island sightseeing steamer → Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum (Misuzu Street) → Roadside Station Senza Kitchen,Nagato Toy Museum of Art → Bus or JR to Yuda Onsen

Point】For family visitors, "Yumoto Kanko Hotel Saikyo" with its abundance of amusement facilities was chosen as the lodging destination, and plans were also created around the roadside station Senza Kitchen, including the Nagato Toy Museum of Art and Aomi Island Tourist Steamship, where parents and children can have fun together.

Point】In Nagato Yumoto Onsen, visitors used "Otosoregawa Terrace (Kawayuka)," one of the new initiatives for a hot spring resort town where visitors can stroll around. From Senza Kitchen, a roadside station, visitors used "rental bicycles" that parents and children can enjoy together, and while waiting at Nagato City Station, they stopped by "Aikororin," a café friendly to the child-raising generation.

Situation 2 (Group C, Group D)

On Saturday, February 8, 2020, a senior couple from Kyushu is planning an overnight trip to Nagato Yumoto Onsen, with sightseeing at Kakushima and Motonosumi Shrine by public transportation. Please suggest a suitable travel plan for this tourist using currently available travel products.

Group C

San'in sightseeing train "◯◯ no hanashi" → Nagato City Station → "Sightseeing bus" tour to Kakushima and Motonosumi Shrine → Nagato Yumoto hot spring → Roadside Station Senza Kitchen → direct train to Shin-Yamaguchi Station → Shinkansen to Kyushu

The tour utilized the "Sights to See and Enjoy" bus tour, which runs only on the second and fourth Saturdays of January and February, and on the second day enjoyed sightseeing in the Senzaki area, taking advantage of the direct connection between Senza Kitchen, a roadside station, and Shin-Yamaguchi Station. In addition, a morning stroll at Daneiji Temple was suggested as a way for senior couples to enjoy their stay at the hotel.

Group D

On the second day, we will head to the Tawarayama area to participate in the "Let's Walk Around Town with an Old Map in Your Hand" walking event held every Sunday, and the "Regular Morning Market " held at Satoyama Station Tawarayama on the second Sunday of each month. The lunch place on the second day should be in the Aburatani area where Motonosumi Shrine is located, so "Dining Bar Zen", a Spanish bar that opened this year, or the Aburataniwan Onsen Hotel Yanggikan were selected as candidates. 【Pointers】This route takes you directly from Shinagawa Station to Shin-Yamaguchi Station on the Shinkansen bullet train. This plan is completely different from other plans in that it is designed to evoke an "adult's holiday," and includes a time at "Cafe Struggle" on Misuzu Street and golf at "Blue Line Country Club" in the Hioki district, staying at the Aburaya Bay Onsen Hotel Yanggikan.

Even in the same situation, the means of transportation, places to stay, and stores to stop at differed from group to group.

Participants acquire a variety of knowledge and hone their ability and knack for making suggestions that suit their customers. The workshop was a great opportunity for participants to gain experience in the field of tourist information. The curriculum will continue to focus on "hospitality" during the winter season.
